1. Graduation Requirements
In addition to specific degree requirements, students must also meet the graduation requirements listed below:
PWOL BYU-Idaho Information

Grade Point Average:
To graduate, a student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
Minimum Grade:
To satisfy a major or certificate requirement, students must earn a minimum grade of C- unless otherwise noted in the specific program requirements. To satisfy General Education or general elective requirements students must earn a minimum grade of D-. A passing grade (P) in a Pass/Fail course will satisfy the applicable program requirement.
Graduation Catalog:
A student is responsible for completing the General Education and major requirements listed in any one BYU–Idaho catalog from the year of first enrollment to the year of graduation, provided the BYU–Idaho Catalog chosen is not more than seven years old. However, students are subject to all other policies, requirements, and procedures as outlined in the University catalog for the current academic year.
Residency Credit:
To graduate with a bachelor's degree a student must complete a minimum of 30 BYU-Idaho credits. To graduate with an associate degree a student must complete a minimum of 15 BYU–Idaho credits. To be awarded a certificate independent of a bachelor’s or associate degree, students must have a minimum of 6 resident credits. Credits earned both online and on-campus count as resident credit.

PathwayConnect credits and Ensign College courses (even if taken through BYU-Pathway Worldwide, such as for a first certificate) do NOT count as Residency Credits.
Upper Division Credit:
To graduate with a bachelor’s degree, a student must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of BYU–Idaho upper-division credits (300 or 400-level courses), 15 of which need to be in residency with BYU-Idaho. Associate degrees do not require a minimum number of upper-division credits.
Total Earned Credit:
A total of 90 credit hours (minimum) must be taken in order to earn a bachelor’s degree (60 for an associate).

The 90-credit bachelor’s degree was introduced for UG24 and moving forward through BYU-Pathway Worldwide.
Academic Certificate:
At least 6 credits must be taken in residence (online or on-campus). All courses must have a minimum grade of C-. To be awarded a certificate independent of a bachelor’s or associate degree, the student must have a minimum program grade point average of 2.0.
Academic Standing:
Students who have an Academic Standing of Ineligible may not graduate from BYU–Idaho. For more information visit the Academic Standard Webpage.
Transfer Credits
While it may be possible that a transfer course can fulfill a course requirement, it may not fill the prerequisite for another course. It is a student’s responsibility to understand how their transfer credits are applied and how that affects their required courses.
Double Counting Rules:
Double counting courses occur when a single course is required multiple times throughout a degree, but the student only needs to take the course (with a passing grade) once for it to “double count” or fulfill the requirement wherever the course is listed. However, the number of credits will only count once towards their total credit count.

While courses can count as fulfilling requirements in multiple sections of the student's degree, the actual credit of the course will only count ONCE.
  • One example is ECON 150. It is an Applied Business core course but also a required course in the C3 (3rd Certificate) Business Administration Certificate. The student will only need to take the course once* to count in both places, and it will only count for 3 credits.
  • Please be mindful of possible double counting courses when adding up credits in the Degree Audit. While a course may double count in requirements, the credit count only applies once for the overall credits taken.
*Reminder: The course must be completed with a passing grade.
  • Example: ECON 150 must be passed with a C- because it is a certificate course. If a student took it as a core course and received a D, it would count as credit for the core course but not as the certificate course. They would then have to retake the course to achieve a passing grade (C- or higher) to have the course count towards the certificate course. Even though the student may need to retake the course for a passing grade, they only receive the credit count for the course once.
