OD-DP: 2023 - Professional Studies 
The sequence given in the “Key” below is the order you should take your courses in. Each line of the key corresponds to a section in the article below and its requirements. Contact your Peer Mentor for any questions or concerns on course sequencing.

ACTION ITEMS will need to be completed by the student at key moments along their degree path.
 
NOTE: If you are pursuing the AAS Family History Research (associate) degree and do not wish to complete a full bachelor’s degree, you will still need to plan for a bachelor’s degree in Degree Planner. After completing all associate degree requirements, you can apply for graduation and will not need to continue with the bachelor’s portion of the degree.

Associate Degree Requirements 
All C1 courses must be completed before any other courses can be taken. 
C1 – Certificate 1 
Scenario 1 
If the student is pursuing the Family History Research AAS, choose the following option:  

  • Family History Research  

Scenario 2 
If the student is not pursuing the Family History Research AAS, choose from the following list of C1 options:  
BYU-Idaho Certificates: 

  • Administrative Assistant  

  • Commercial Fundamentals  

  • Community and Environmental Health  

  • Construction Field Supervision  

  • Entrepreneurship  

  • Family History Research  

  • Family Relations  

  • TEFL  

  • Web and Computer Programming  

 
Ensign College Certificates: 
Ensign College certificates can only be taken as a C1. 

  • Basic Accounting  

  • Hospitality and Tourism Management  

  • Medical Billing and Coding Fundamentals  

  • Project Management  

  • Social Media Marketing  

  • Technical Support Engineer  

 

ACTION ITEM
  • In the last semester of your C1, you will need to apply for graduation. The process to complete a graduation application at BYU-Idaho can be found in Diploma/Certificates Graduation Application.
  • During your last semester of C1 courses, if an Ensign College certificate was completed for C1, start the transfer request to move enrollment from Ensign College to BYU-Idaho.

After completing C1, AG and AR courses can be taken along with C2 courses. The Degree Planner will plan these courses appropriately.  
 
C2 Certificate 2     
 
Scenario 1 
If the student is pursuing the Family History Research AAS, choose the following option:  

  • Advanced Family History Research  

Scenario 2 
If the student is not pursuing the Family History Research AAS, their C2 should be chosen from the list of BYU-Idaho C1 options (you cannot take a certificate more than once) -OR- from the following list of C2 options:  

  • Advanced Family History Research - The Family History Research certificate will need to be completed first.  

  • Business and Leadership Skills - One of the following certificates will need to be completed first. 

  • Administrative Assistant  

  • Commercial Fundamentals  

  • Construction Field Supervision  

  • Entrepreneurship  

  • TEFL  

  • Basic Accounting (Ensign College)  

  • Hospitality and Tourism Management (Ensign College)  

  • Medical Billing and Coding Fundamentals (Ensign College)  

  • Project Management (Ensign College)  

  • Social Media Marketing (Ensign College)  

  • Family Services -The Family Relations certificate will need to be completed first.  

  • Graphic Design Fundamentals – Any C1 option from BYU-Idaho or Ensign College will need to be completed first. 

  • Health Program Strategies – The Community and Environmental Health certificate will need to be completed first. 

  • Web Development – The Web and Computer Programming certificate will need to be completed first. 

 

ACTION ITEM
In the last semester of your C2, you will need to apply for graduation. The process to complete a graduation application at BYU-Idaho can be found in Diploma/Certificates Graduation Application.

 

AR – Associate Religion 

  • 2 cornerstone religion courses and 2 additional religion courses.  

AG – Associate Generals 
Program required core courses:

 

  • Math 108X: Math for the Real World
  • WRIT 101: Writing in Professional Contexts 
    • WRIT 101 replaced ENG 150. If you have already fulfilled this requirement with ENG 150, you would not need to take WRIT 101.
  • BUS 301: Advanced Writing in Professional Contexts
    • ENG 301 was no longer offered after the Fall 2023 semester. If you have already fulfilled this requirement with ENG 301, you would not need to take BUS 301.
  • GE 103: Online University Skills (Fulfilled by PC 103, GE 103, or GS 120 taken during PathwayConnect)

 

ACTION ITEM
  • In the last semester of your associate degree, you will need to apply for graduation.
  • You will need to complete an internship prior to completing your bachelor’s degree. After finding an internship, it will need to be approved through the Internship Office before you will be allowed to register. This process takes time and should be started no later than in the semester prior to when the internship is planned in your Degree Planner.

Bachelor’s Degree Requirements 
The bachelor’s degree requirements include completion of the associate degree requirements listed above. Prior to taking any of the courses listed in the bachelor’s degree requirements, you will need to complete all associate degree requirements. 
   
C3 Certificate 3 
C3 should be chosen from the list of BYU-Idaho C1 and C2 options (you cannot take a certificate more than once) -OR- from the following list of C3 options:  

  • Business Administration - The Business and Leadership Skills certificate will need to be completed first.   

  • Family Theory and Research - The Family Services certificate will need to be completed first.  

  • Health Program Evaluation - The Health Program Strategies certificate will need to be completed first.  

  • Software Development - The Web Development certificate will need to be completed first. 

ACTION ITEM
In the last semester of your C3, you will need to apply for graduation.

 
I Internship     

  • GS 497 – Professional Projects  

  • Prerequisite – Minimum of 50 credits 

  •  

  • NOTE: If students have an internship lined up, they can still register for IDS 398R but starting Winter 2025, all students will be required to take GS 497 to fulfill the internship requirement. 

  •  

 

   

NOTE: Internship Waiver requests are no longer processed by BYU-Pathway Worldwide. All Professional Studies students must complete GS 497 – Professional Projects to fulfill the internship requirement. For students who have an internship already lined up, please speak to Advising when it comes time to register if you do not have the internship in your Degree Planner.

If a student previously completed IDS 398R as an internship, it will count as credit for the internship requirement and they will not need to take GS 497.

 

BR Bachelor Religion      

  • 2 cornerstone courses and 1 additional course   

    
BG Bachelor Generals   

  •  

You will complete the “Leadership and Self-Reliance" Module for the Bachelor Generals.  

  • Arts & Humanities – 1 course  

  • HUM 110 – Discover/Discern Through Arts

  • PUBH 132 – Personal Health & Wellness 

  • GESCI 110 – Sustaining Human Life 

  • Social Science – 2 courses  

  • FCS 160 – Home & Family Resource Management 

  • PEACE 101 – Conflict and Peace 

 

E – Elective Courses   

  • Degree Planner will plan the required number of elective courses to finish off the student’s upper division credit hour requirement (30 upper division with 15 in residency credit hours) as well as the minimum credit hour requirement for a bachelor’s degree (120 credit hours).    

ACTION ITEM
  • In the last semester of your bachelor's degree, you will need to review your degree audit to make sure you have met all the requirements for graduation.
  • If all requirements have been met and your account has no holds, you will need to apply for graduation.
