Transfer Students to BYUI - Send Ensign credits to BYU-Idaho – No fee This process has been discontinued.

Sending transcripts for evaluation for a transfer student is a lengthy process. Prepare students to wait up to 10 weeks total for the transfer of credits and then the BYU-Idaho evaluation process to be completed.

When students submit a transfer request to move their enrollment from Ensign College to BYU-Idaho, any credits earned will be sent to BYU-Idaho for evaluation for students who meet certain qualifications (*listed below).

Transcripts will be sent after semester grades have been posted and certificates and degrees have been awarded by Ensign College.

Students should expect to wait 5-6 weeks for their Ensign transcripts to be sent to BYU-Idaho for evaluation after grades have been posted and another 5-6 weeks for BYU-Idaho to evaluate them.

Sending Transcripts Qualifications
*Transcripts will be sent only to transfer students that meet the following requirements:
  1.  The student has accepted their BYU-Idaho admissions offer (is admitted to BYU-Idaho).
  2. The student does not have past-due debt with Ensign.
  3. The student is not registered for a future semester at Ensign.
Students that do not meet the above requirements will be responsible for sending their transcripts to BYU-Idaho themselves or contacting Advising to have them sent after all requirements have been met

Section C
If transcripts have been sent, a date will show up in the ECOL Transcripts field in the student’s CRM General Tab. If transcripts are not being sent a reason will be listed.

If the "Transcripts Sent On" field has a date and it has been more than 10 weeks since that date,
Peer Advisors or Advising should contact the BYU-Idaho Transfer Evaluation Office on behalf of the matriculated student for an update on the evaluation process.

Matriculated Students
Students should not be sent to the BYU-Idaho Transfer Evaluation Office. If students have questions regarding the receipt and evaluation of Ensign transcripts, Advising or Peer Advisors can contact the BYU-Idaho Transfer Evaluation
Office on behalf of the student for an update.  The BYU-Idaho Transfer Evaluation Office can be contacted at
transfer@byui.edu or +1 208-496-1020

Please prepare the following information upon calling them:
Name/s of College/University where your transcripts are from.
Your full name as printed on your prior college transcripts.
Date when the transcripts were sent to BYU-Idaho.
BYU-Idaho Student ID #. This can be found on your Student Portal by clicking on your name at the upper-right corner of the portal.

If BYU-Idaho cannot locate the Ensign records, Advising or Peer Advisors should create a ticket and send it to the Transfer Team with detailed information including the Transfer Evaluation
The office could locate the Ensign transcript.

Once BYU-Idaho receives the transcripts from Ensign College it will take another 4-5 weeks for BYU-Idaho to complete the evaluation process.

*In total, it will take approximately 10 weeks for Ensign credit to show up on BYU-Idaho's records.

Request Transcripts be sent to BYU-Idaho on Behalf of Studentssee the instructions in the Employee Procedure section.

New Applicants:
New students and students matriculating from PathwayConnect must submit all transcripts from previous colleges in the United States to admissions as part of the application to the Online Certificates and Degrees program. For more information, see OD - Educational History

If a newly admitted student has questions about transcripts being received and/or evaluated, or about how they were evaluated, see the Employee Procedure New Students section below.

Matriculated Students:
Transcripts, test scores, and other educational credentials submitted after the admissions process should be emailed directly from the institution the student attended (or from the CollegeBoard website for test scores) to the BYU-Idaho Transfer Evaluation Office at: transfer@byui.edu

If an admitted student has questions about transcripts being received and/or evaluated, or about how transcripts were evaluated, see the Employee Procedure Matriculated Students section below.
  • The school will not be alerted to this submission, and the student should follow up with their school's (BYU-Idaho or Ensign) Records Office to make sure they were received.
  • The best way to make sure that the transcripts get connected to the correct account is to for the student to update their current name at the original school before transcripts are requested.
International Credits:
PC students are not required to submit college transcripts from a foreign institution unless they want their credit evaluated for transferability. International students must go through the IERF (Foreign Credential Evaluation Service) https://www.ierf.org/ or SPANTRAN to have their transcripts processed. This is VERY expensive and will most likely give the student very little transfer credit.

Transcripts from Canada are considered International and need to go through the IERF. Unlike other international countries, most degrees can be transferred from Canada.

CLEP Test Scores
Students need to request that their CLEP Test Scores be sent to BYU-Idaho from the College Board. Transfer Evaluation does not accept CLEP test results from other university or college transcripts. They must be from the College Board. Students can request their CLEP scores from the College Board website.

Masters Programs
BYU-Idaho does not offer any master's degrees as part of the Online Certificates and Degrees program and will not accept or evaluate master program transcripts or count them as electives.

See section 1 of this article for more information.

New Students
Official transfer credit evaluation does not occur for new students until after a student has been admitted to BYU-Idaho by ODAS and the student has accepted their admissions offer.

Students interested in seeing how their previous course credits may transfer to BYU-Idaho can use the university's Transfer Tool.

Students will receive an email once the transfer evaluation process is complete.

Ensign Information -

Ensign College generally accepts college-level transfer credits from regionally accredited colleges and universities.
Courses from institutions that are not regionally accredited are not transferable to Ensign College except in circumstances where there is an articulation agreement with a specific institution and program.

Only transfer courses with a grade of C- or higher are eligible for transfer consideration.
Transfer credit may be used to satisfy degree requirements but will not be calculated into the Ensign College GPA.

Generally, transfer courses completed 10 or more years ago will be accepted as elective credits.

All students pursuing their first certificate through Ensign College will have their transfer credits evaluated in two stages.
Only the portion of the transfer credits that apply to the first certificate will be evaluated and applied to the student's account while they are working on their first certificate. This is regardless of which degree they are pursuing (those declaring a communications degree will also be evaluated in two stages).
  • Students who declare the Communications degree will have a full evaluation of their transfer credits done by Ensign College after completing their first certificate.
  • Students who are switching to BYU-Idaho after completing their first certificate at Ensign College will have a full evaluation of their transfer credits done by BYU-Idaho after they have completed their first certificate and switched to BYU-Idaho.

5. Military Credits
Information below applies to both BYU-Idaho Online and Ensign students
BYU-Pathway Worldwide can accept “Basic Training” military credit. This will be determined when students' official credits are evaluated and processed.

To transfer Military Credits earned through the Army, Navy, or Air Force, the student will need to refer to the following article: How do I get College Credits for my Military Service?

UG 23 Bachelor's Degree
15 Upper-division transfer credits will count towards the 30 upper-division credit requirements for graduation at BYU-Idaho. The other 15 upper-division credits must be taken in residency through BYU-Idaho (online or on campus count as residency credit).

UG 22 catalog or any previous catalog, the following requirements will apply:

Bachelor's Degree:
A student must complete a minimum of 15 residency credit hours of BYU–Idaho upper-division credits (300 or 400-level courses).

*Upper-division transfer credits will not fulfill the upper-division credit requirement at BYU-Idaho. All upper-division courses must be taken in residency to get credit.

Associate degrees do not require a minimum number of upper-division credits to graduate regardless of catalog year.

Courses with a code of 300 or higher are considered upper division. Lower-division courses cannot be substituted for 300-400 level BYU-Idaho courses for the purposes of meeting upper-division requirements.

If a student has a transfer course that comes over and subs in for a 300-400 level course, the transfer course may fulfill a specific course requirement for the major (if approved), and it may show on the audit accordingly.

The upper-division transfer course will NOT count towards the upper-division requirement unless the student is on a 2023 catalog or later and there is room in the upper-division requirement for a transfer course to count.

Ensign Information -

Bachelor’s Degrees: Complete a minimum of 40 credit hours of upper-division classes (300 level or higher course).

Associate Degrees: no minimum upper-division requirement.
